The day Preston ground to a halt

Friday became a day of road chaos and traffic on the M6 and Preston’s roads.

The M6 between junction J32-33 had been shut around 3am on Friday 17 June, 2022 due to an overturned lorry.

After 5pm all lanes on the motorway were reopened, although delays remained until the early evening as traffic cleared from surrounding routes.

Before that time major routes across Preston, Fulwood and South Ribble had been gridlocked with normal journeys of 10-15 minutes taking more than an hour due to the volume of traffic.

On Twitter people expressed their frustrations on the situation, one person said: “We were stuck in this for five hours with a one year old in the back.

“Delay estimates were way off. Taking 14 hours to clear a single vehicle is shameful.”
