A swimming instructor is heading to Bali in August to teach children drowning prevention skills and clean water stewardship.
AdvertisementAmy Holden will be working with the charity Swim Tayka which offers free swimming lessons to children living near open water and SwimDo, an organisation who are working to increase aquatic education in Bali and provide life-saving skills to the communities.
Throughout the summer there will be nine volunteers working with the project, but just three volunteers for the last two weeks.

Amy’s swim school, which is based in Penwortham and teaches at Hutton Grammar School, Longton Pool and Walton Le Dale Primary School, is also trying to raise £1,500 for the charity to help fund equipment and further training.
Children at the swim school have been taking part in a sponsored swim to raise more donations. The children are aiming to swim 7,105 metres, which represents each child the charity has helped.
Amy said: “I have booked my flights now and am terrified of the 18-hour flight alone, I’ve never done anything like this before let alone doing it on my own. I’m a mother of two girls 14 and eight and they’re really supportive of me along with my partner Phil.
“I’m travelling alone and meeting the others out there, I’ve never done anything like this before, never really been travelling and never been long-haul so I’m very excited but nervous about doing it alone.
“My team of 9 staff members are incredible and have worked so hard with the fundraising and lessons for the children.”
