The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has given more cash to local authorities through the Household Support Fund scheme.
Preston will be able to help more residents in the city to pay household bills and food.
The funding from the first round of the scheme was used at the end of 2021 and the start of 2022, but as the cost of bills and household items rise, many families are feeling the squeeze.

Under Round 2 of the Household Support Fund is also an element to specifically help pensioners in Preston who are in receipt of Council Tax Support. These households are currently being identified and will receive a one-off payment in the sum of ÂŁ90 in the form of a voucher, which can be cashed in at any Post Office branch.
Councillor Martyn Rawlinson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for resources, said: “Everyone is feeling the pinch of escalating energy, utility and food bills in the midst of the current cost of living crisis.
“That’s why this funding is so important and we need everyone across Preston who meets the criteria to apply for help under the Household Support Fund scheme.
“I’d urge you to pass this message to all your family and friends and let’s help as many people as possible right now, when it’s needed most.”
