Operation Sceptre, the national week of knife surrender, has begun.
Preston Police are inviting people to surrender weapons to one of the knife bins located in Princess Street in Avenham, Kingsfold Community Centre in Penwortham, and Gamull Lane in Ribbleton.
To start the week of action, the Avenham and Frenchwood neighbourhood officer conducted a weapons sweep today (Monday 16 May) at Frenchwood Allotments.
Chris Walmsley, Chair of the Frenchwood Allotments Association, said: “No weapons were found on our site, but officers were invited to use our allotments to show police presence and give reassurance to our 120 plotholders.”
The knife bin on Princess Street has also been emptied and remains in place.
A Preston Police spokesperson said: “We are committed to keeping our communities safe and tackling violent crime is a priority for us.
“We will continue to work 24/7 and 365 days of the year and to act on information.”
