A University of Central Lancashire lecturer is using science and comedy to open up about the menopause.

In the first in a series of free public lectures at the University, survival psychology expert Dr Sarita Robinson will explore what the menopause is doing to her body and how she is navigating her way through this next stage in her life.

Sarita, known as Dr Survival, is used to getting hands-on with her work and has completed training in helicopter underwater escape, fire-fighting and coastal survival, all in the name of research. She is now taking this practical approach to the menopause.

She said: “I wanted to give this talk to empower anyone who is going through the menopause, particularly as there is so much shame and stigma associated with it as well as such little understanding of the science.

“This event takes a light heartened look at the menopause and our scientific understanding of what happens to our bodies. We need to talk more about the menopause.”

The free event will take place on Thursday (12 May) on the Preston Campus in UCLan’s Mitchell and Kenyon Theatre, Foster Building, at 6pm. Attendees can register via Eventbrite.
