Fishergate closed as eight fire engines battle Preston city centre blaze

Fishergate is closed as firefighters battle a blaze in Preston city centre.

Eight fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms are at a fire in a derelict building in Mount Street.

Fishergate is closed at the junction with Chapel Street down to the Fishergate Shopping Centre.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted from the scene at 9.30pm today (Friday 13 May).

Local resident and Twitter user @PrestonYoda1 shared a video of smoke rising from the scene.

They tweeted: “Fire at St. Joseph’s Orphanage it is. Youths allowed to throw masonry from windows every day they are. Owners never prosecuted. Police promise action, but done nothing is done.”
