Preston City Council is set to take action to improve what it describes as ‘difficult’ and ‘inconvenient’ bus services.

A Notice of Motion on the topic was submitted by Councillor Jonathan Saksena in April.

The Council noted several issues:

  • The main bus operators are struggling to maintain their advertised timetables despite frequent alterations
  • Many bus routes with an advertised four services per hour are often failing to operate even one service in that hour
  •  Many residents in Preston who depend on the bus services are finding it increasingly difficult to travel to their places of work, let alone to arrive on time
  • Many residents are finding themselves stranded at awkward times of the day
  • Revised timetables are often inconvenient and even unrealistic for people’s working hours.

The Council has resolved to refer the matter to the Overview and Scrutiny Committee with a view to interviewing the relevant bus operators.

The Council also vowed to ask Lancashire County Council‘s Public Transport Team to take action to alleviate the problems, and make sure Preston MP Sir Mark Hendrick is aware of the situation.
