UCLan has invited Preston residents to a free hour-long samba drumming workshop this March.
AdvertisementBooking is now open for the workshop, held at the UCLan Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre on Thursday 10 March.
The workshop will allow attendees to try out percussion instruments from the samba band and learn simple patterns for short pieces.

Dr Jon Aveyard, a Senior Lecturer in Music and Audio Art, is leading the workshop.
Jon has performed with several samba bands from the North West, including the Worldwise Samba Drummers, familiar to Preston residents for their lively performances on the Flag Market, Avenham Park and elsewhere around the city.
The workshop is a social prescribing event and unites researchers across the university who share an interest in activities that people can be referred to by health professionals.

The event will feature two other workshops in T’ai Chi and Somatic Dance, and university staff will be around all day to provide information and answer questions about social prescribing.
The workshop runs from 3pm until 4pm and is free – but the university recommends booking to prepare for the number of attendees.
No previous experience is required.
