Penwortham scout group clear out to raise Ukraine funds

Young people have been donating things to help those in Ukraine

Beavers from the 5th Penwortham URC Scout Group have given bags of help to Lancashire Teaching Hospital Charity’s Children’s Appeal and to organisations working to help young Ukrainian refugees.

The youngsters – with the help of their families – held a sort-out of their wardrobes and drawers, bagging items of clothing and footwear that no longer fit.

The bags were taken to Instant Cash 4 Clothes in Blackpool Road, Preston, which based on the bags’ weight, valued
their items at £60 cash.

Visitors to the store can choose to either take the cash or, like the Beavers, donate it to the Children’s Appeal, which has a £1 million target to buy a range of equipment to make the children’s in and out-patients at both Royal Preston and Chorley District General Hospitals, as well as other local centres managed by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, better for young patients.

The store is currently also supporting Ukrainian relief efforts so has forwarded the bags to Poland for Ukrainian refugees.

Children’s Appeal fundraiser Lucy Clark said: “A massive thank you to all at 5th Penwortham Scout Group for getting involved with this.

“It’s fantastic to see all the children and their families supporting us to help other families. By offering local pick-ups, Instant Cash 4 Clothes are really helping to make it as easy as possible to have a clear out and donate.”
