As part of the new Market Street Social area of Preston there is a courtyard surrounded by artisan makers and creative studios.
Situated just behind PLAU, off Friargate Brow, a team of independent creatives are hosting workshops under the ‘Meet & Make’ banner.
These workshops hope to connect Prestonians to artists and new creative experiences, inviting them to get hands-on and make things together.

Over the past few weeks, the venue has hosted many events such as:
In the coming weeks there will be a floristry workshop with Ivy & Primrose.
This Saturday’s (12 March) workshop is with Preston Zine maker and photographer Ash Hardman. Just like all of the workshop hosts for the Meet & Make sessions at OnceWasLost. Bar.
Ash is a local maker and creative, based in the City Centre, who thinks Zine’s are a great way to show his work off.
Ash said: “For me, Zine seemed like the obvious next step in my career, a way of putting my work together and in a context that made sense to its audience and a Zine was an affordable method for me to do so.
“I would say that this Zine’s content is mainly documentary photography but photography is my absolute passion so the content this covers is very much up my street!
“I also collect Zines produced by photographers from across the UK. I collect from various photo-book shops and exhibitions, I’ve now got quite a collection covering every topic imaginable!
“One of the most notable zines within the photography world was actually produced here in Preston; people may be familiar with the phrase “Preston is my Paris” well that’s the name of the Zine.
“t was produced by Adam Murray, Robert Parkinson and Jamie Hawkesworth – I’d love to get my hands on a copy.
“If people come down on Saturday we will experiment with what makes a good Zine. I think that materials play a part in a good Zine – what the paper is made of, where it is stapled, or if it is sewn together down the middle. There are so many ways to produce a Zine.
“If you wanted to see any of my Zines – I have got a few copies available for viewing at Jonah’s coffee at Preston Markets!”
You can catch Ash this Saturday at OnceWasLost.Bar and join in the workshop from 11-4pm. Booking is essential as these sessions sell out fast, to book your space online visit www.plau.co.uk/events
