Preston city centre to display Jubilee-themed illuminations this weekend
An array of Jubilee-themed lights and decorations will this weekend illuminate Preston city centre until the end of June.
From 25 March, residents will enjoy red, blue and white lighting with gold highlights and British monarchy symbols such as crowns, Union Jacks, swans, Queen’s Guards and corgis above Fishergate, Church Street and part of Friargate, using the Christmas lights infrastructure.
Preston City Council organised The Jubilee Aerial Installation in honour of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee with funding from The Welcome Back Fund, the European Regional Development Fund and the government.
Easter egg rolling returns to Avenham Park for first time in two years
Preston’s famed egg rolling event is back for 2022, having been cancelled for two years due to Covid restrictions.
The popular event, held on Avenham and Miller Parks every Easter Monday, has a documented history of over 150 years.
Every year, visitors arrive from all over Lancashire to take part in the event, which sees hundreds of visitors rolling chocolate eggs down the steep hill on Avenham Park, on the hour, every hour.
Fulwood Library ‘Knit and Natter’ group make 51 trauma teddies for Preston Police
A local knitting group that made 51 trauma teddies for children undergoing stressful events have donated them to Preston Police.
The Knit and Natter social group at Fulwood Library created the teddies for Preston Police to offer children a simple distraction during potentially upsetting circumstances.
Trauma teddies are knitted for emergency services all over the world.
Local officer PCSO Shackleton visited the library to receive the bears, who has since given them to tactical operations officers to use in the event of a road traffic collision.
Penwortham No.1 Fairham Gin lands two accolades at Spirits Awards
A Penwortham gin firm has picked up two silver awards for a dry Lancashire gin range at the 2022 IWSC Spirits Awards.
Liam Stemson and Ellis McKeown, owners and distillers at No.1 Fairham Gin, launched their Signature Edition in April 2021.
As they approach their first anniversary as a distillery, the Signature earned 94 points out of 100 after the firm joined the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London this year, with expert judges from across the global spirits trade.
Fylde pub operator urges residents to rally together for Ukraine relief appeal
A Fylde pub operator has pledged to fill two articulated lorries with supplies to help Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
Ross Robinson of Red Fox and Peacock, who lived in Poland for five years as a youth, felt moved by the conflict and is now rallying the Fylde and Preston communities to help him and his team fill the lorries with 64 pallets for transport on 25 March.
Across six pubs, 300 staff have sorted and packed pallet contents, with over 100 volunteers signing up to help.
