Adrian Phillips, Chief Executive and Returning Officer at Preston City Council, said: “We were all saddened at the news of John Browne passing away – he was a hardworking and long-standing councillor who will be sadly missed.
“These are big shoes to fill, but the democratic process must continue, and we now require a request for an election by two Preston residents to set this in motion.
“This is also an opportunity for me to remind all those not currently registered to vote that it is quick and easy to have your name added to the electoral register.
“You can do this at any time of year, but you only have until 14 April to vote at the local elections in May.”
