Preston North End supporters have donated over £4,000 in just five days towards a new flag to honour club legend Sir Tom Finney.
Fan forum PNE Online will unveil the surfer flag to mark Sir Tom’s 100th birthday on Tuesday 5 April at the match against Blackpool FC.
A vote was held to find the winning design, which shows a sketched image of Sir Tom in his playing days above large striking lettering saying Finney.
The size of the flag depended on the amount of money raised, and as the £4,000 mark has been exceeded the flag will measure a huge 25m by 15m.
Organisers now plan to put any additional money towards a second surfer flag, and have launched a campaign to find the design.

After reaching the original target, a spokesperson for PNE Online posted an update on GoFundMe: “We’ve been absolutely blown away with the response to our Sir Tom Finney surfer flag campaign.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everybody who has donated to our campaign so far but another large flag means that we need to increase our target on GoFundMe and we’d urge all supporters to only donate if you’re able to.
“If you’re not able to donate or if you have already donated to our campaign you can still help by sharing what we’re doing far and wide on social media and telling all of the North End fans that you know what we’re up to!”
