As the days are getting slightly longer (finally!) we’ve been feeling hopeful that winter is slowly but surely coming to an end.
Here are five stories from Preston this week which have put us in a great mood.
Preston Here for Humanity hold collection to help women and children fleeing domestic violence
Preston Here for Humanity collected supplies for women and children across Preston and Lancashire who are escaping domestic violence.
The collection took place over three days and hygiene products, toiletries and other unwanted Christmas gifts were donated. The collection was done in partnership with ‘Hope 4 Women.’

New defibrillators installed in Moor Park, Ashton Park and Ribbleton Park
Preston City Council has successfully installed three life-saving defibrillators at Preston’s most significant grassroots football sites.
The locations are Moor Park, Ashton Park and Ribbleton Park.
Match funded by the Lancashire Football Association, the devices are located within easy reach when football matches or training are taking place.
The kits are fully accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are for use by anyone who needs them.

Penwortham Girls’ High School to host inaugural STEM festival
Penwortham Girls’ High School are hosting their very first STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) festival from Monday 28 February to Friday 11 March.
It is set to be a celebration of STEM subjects, and it will include an extensive in-school programme of activities, alongside opportunities to go on relevant school trips.
Visits range from trips to Blackpool’s Sealife Centre and Zoo to opportunities to learn at The Holocaust Exhibition and Lancaster University.

Watch as M55 bridge demolished for Preston Western Distributor works
The Preston Western Distributor works saw the M55 closed whilst the demolition of the Becconsall footbridge over the motorway was completed recently.
The bridge was demolished successfully.
