A Preston city centre bar has welcomed action on anti-social behaviour as police have revealed the results of the first night of a dispersal order.

The order has been put in place this weekend following recent reports of disorder involving youths.

On Friday night, Preston Police spoke with numerous youths in the city centre.

Due to reports of anti-social behaviour, 15 youths were issued with direction to leave notices. Alcohol was seized and one youth was taken to the police station due to drugs offences. A further seven youths were taken home to their families.

The Orchard Craft Beer Bar, which is based in Preston Markets, has welcomed the move.

On Facebook a spokesperson said: “This is very welcomed by us and our staff. Let’s hope it makes a difference.

“We love our little bar and the city, and hate seeing the effects that all this anti-social behaviour has been causing – not only to us but also many other business around town.”

The bar has previously spoken out about the disorder, saying it has had a ‘major impact’ on business.

A post on The Orchard’s Facebook page on 30 December said: “The youths have absolutely no care, respect or regard for anything or anyone.

“Some evenings there can be 50 kids gathering in different groups under the market canopy, Bus Station and other locations across town.

“They fight, start fires, steal and damage property. They abuse and threaten members of the public including ourselves and our bar staff. These kids are out of control. They have absolutely zero respect for the law or our officers.

“We are a small family run bar and we have already seen a major impact on our business. Things cannot carry on as they are. “

The dispersal order will remain in place until Sunday evening.
