A number of events aimed at the LGBTQ+ community are coming to Preston.
Organisers believe there’s been a ‘void’ in terms of LGBTQ+ events in the city, something they say they’re excited to be addressing.
On Thursday 9 December, the first Dragged Out event will take place at Riva Showbar in Tithebarn Street.
Organised by Micah Bimson, Dragged Out we will be a monthly night featuring resident host Diamond Delore, resident performer Ambyr Leaf, and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK finalist Kitty Scott-Claus.

The following night, Friday 10 December, will see the launch of Trash, a monthly alternative LGBTQ+ night taking place upstairs at The Stanley Arms.
The first event at the Lancaster Road pub will feature live music from Sally Pepper, followed by a DJ playing rock, punk, metal, indie, pop, queer and retro. Tickets are £4 from Eventbrite or on the door.
Alicia Cartwright from Trash said: “There is a stereotype that all gay nights have to be drag queens and disco, and of course those nights are great but we want something different.
“Trash is a great opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community to enjoy something alternative, including live music.”
One regular night that’s already begun takes place weekly on a Wednesday at The Market Tavern in Market Street, with free entry.
Laura Brearley from The Market Tavern said: “We want the LGBTQ+ community to have a safe place to socialise.
“We feel personally Preston is lacking in that area and thought we could help fill the void. With free pizza and karaoke, what’s not to love?”

Licensee at The Market Tavern and The Stanley Arms, Paul Butcher, said: “It’s fantastic to have this opportunity to put something on for the LGBTQ+ community in Preston.
“At The Market Tavern, we’ve now got a friendly and fun night with singers, musicians, open mic and karaoke.
“At the same time, we’ve been fortunate enough to meet Alicia who is organising the Trash night at The Stanley Arms. With professional bands, singers and DJs, this night promises to be a bit more of a weekend indie feel.
“All our staff and management absolutely love hosting these events. The nights are so fun and friendly, and we’re proud to be supporting all LGBTQ+ people in Preston and beyond.”

In addition to these regular events, support and meet-ups are shared on Facebook via Rainbow Lancashire and the LGBTQ+ Preston Friendship Group.
Alicia added: “Now we have all these nights, informal meet ups and support, hopefully the LGBTQ+ community will feel supported and safe, and ready to have fun!”
