Preston Opera has invited local singers to rehearse for a 2022 production of Carmen.

The venue will host a fully staged production on 3, 4 and 5 June 2022 at Fulwood Academy, accompanied by a full orchestra.

Rehearsals start at 7:30 pm on Thursday 13 January 2022, and all are welcome to participate.

The organisers are keen to speak to residents with experience singing in choirs or other groups who would like to experience the drama of Carmen.

But hopefuls do not need previous singing experience, as the organisers will provide support.

Preston Opera is also searching for people interested in helping the production team, working on set construction or costumes.

Preston Opera was the brainchild of local musician Frank Salter, who gathered together a small group of singers with a mutual interest in performing opera in 1965.

Until then, opera in Preston was restricted to visiting tour groups.

Early productions were staged in the Preston Playhouse, and in 1976, Preston Opera moved to the Charter Theatre, where it has performed annually ever since.
