Six young Preston artists are featuring on a new song with UK rap star Mic Righteous after impressing him with their music skills.
The track was recorded at Soundskills in Brookfield during a young person’s urban music project called Urban Influence, which was funded via the Arts Council. The six-month project, designed for local artists aged 25 and under, was run by Jamie O’Connor, Daniel Squires and Liam Blake.
Liam, aka BLKY, said: “We managed to book Mic to come down from Margate to run a lyric writing masterclass. Mic is widely regarded in the rap scene as one of the best lyricists in the UK.
“During the masterclass Mic invited the young people to showcase some of their stuff. He was so impressed by the lyrics and beats he was shown that he insisted we all write a short verse and put a track together.
“There and then six local artists wrote their parts and went straight into the booth to record.”
The resulting song is Wait In Line by Mic Righteous, BLKY, Dec, Gizmo, Big General, Dabz and Gandom Rhy.
“This track is amazing and one of a kind,” Liam said. “Not only does it feature a huge name with millions of views but artists who have never released a track.”
The song is exclusively available on the Soundskills Social YouTube channel. If the video below doesn’t play, watch on YouTube.
For Dec, aka Declan Connor, it was the first time he had written and recorded, and he even created the beat for the song.
Speaking about the recording Dec said: “I had the instrumental for a few weeks so when Mic came we decided to use it and along came the track. Shout out to all the guys involved – they were incredible.
“It was a great experience working with someone so inspiring. A moment to never forget.”

The song has been played on Amazing Radio, a station that helps new and emerging artists get discovered and make money. It’s also expected to receive airplay on Beat 103’s Quick 2 Menchon show.
Liam, who recorded the track with Jamie, added: “I am very proud that we managed to put this together and I am even prouder that it showcases such great local talent.”
