Preston hair products land top accolades at prestigious beauty awards

A Preston-based hair product range has landed top accolades at The Pure Beauty Awards.

FYC, based in Cotton Court, is a product range for mixed textured curls and has won the awards one year after launching.

The range received shortlist nominations for two products in the Best New Textured Hair Product category. FYC Leave-In Conditioner received bronze, and the Refresh and Detangle Spray was the winner with the gold.

FYC co-founder Rob Binns accepted the award at a ceremony in London hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race star Cheryl Hole.

Rob said: “We’re absolutely thrilled! It’s a great honour to be commended in this way, and it’s a testament to how much our customers love the products.

“FYC was created with customers in mind, so this is proof that we’re doing the right thing! Walk down any hair aisle in the country, and you’ll now see a dedicated curl section. It wasn’t the case five or 10 years ago.

“It’s a huge and growing market, so for industry experts and our customers to rank our products so highly is a real achievement.”

He began working on the range with his business partners Bradley Lincoln and Mike Peters after failing to find the correct hair product for daughter Lydia, 3.

FYC said the products are ideal for Afro-European mixed textured curls, are easy-to-use, accessibly priced, and entirely made in Britain.

The Pure Beauty Awards are the largest in the beauty industry, with brands shortlisted by experts and the public voting for the winners.

Rob Binns is a serial entrepreneur in a range of tech, telecommunication and property companies and undertakes some civic and charitable roles. His daughter, Lydia, is of mixed race, and her hair journey is at the heart of FYC.

Co-founder Bradley Lincoln is a parent of mixed-race children and the creator of the ‘Mix-d:’ concept of resources and materials developed around the subject of mixed-race identity in the UK. Bradley headed the research that led to the development of FYC.

Co-founder Mike Peters founded Universal Products Manufacturing, a business that delivers products for some of the top names in the beauty world from their factory in Kirkham in the North West of England.

Mike has a successful track record in the beauty and hair product sector, including work in West Africa, and was honoured with an MBE for services to North West industries.
