Preston artist Lubaina Himid receives prize at Harper’s Bazaar Women of Year awards

Harper’s Bazaar, the world’s longest-established luxury fashion, art and literary magazineheld its annual Women of the Year Awards on November 2 in partnership with Armani beauty.


The awards ceremony, which took place at Claridge’s hotel in London, recognised the outstanding achievements of women in the worlds of fashion, film, art, literature, music and activism.

Lubaina Himid from Preston received the Artist award for her powerful and socially-engaged body of work, created over four decades, culminating in a landmark solo show at Tate Modern this autumn.

Lubaina is a professor of contemporary art at the University of Central Lancashire.

Her art focuses on themes of cultural history and reclaiming identities.
