It’s been a cold week in Preston this week, but we’ve had plenty of news to warm your hearts. From fundraisers to help those in need across the Christmas period, to locals walking five miles in the freezing cold for Rosemere – here’s our pick of the best five stories you may have missed.

Preston Here for Humanity are hosting a reverse advent calendar to help those less fortunate over the festive period.
Rather than take a chocolate from an advent calendar though, you add an item to a box ready for the community interest company to collect on Christmas Eve.
Over 100 people have signed up to participate in the initiative so far.
We’re looking for someone to light up Preston
In partnership withthe organisers of the Christmas Lights Switch On, Preston BID, we are seeking nominations for a Proud Prestonian to switch on the city’s Christmas lights.
The event, which is free to attend, takes place on the Flag Market on Saturday 20 November from 5.30pm, and will feature a host of performers and special guests.
One lucky winner will be invited on stage to speak to the event hosts, in front of a huge home crowd, before joining the famous faces to light up their city.
In Pictures: Rosemere Walk the Lights event was a ‘great family night out’
Over 200 supporters of Rosemere Cancer Foundation gathered together to walk the Blackpool Illuminations.
They walked five miles of the world famous lights to raise £4,000 for the charity.
From the walk’s end point at Starr Gate they were directed to nearby Sharples Hall for free refreshments and a performance by local band The Inbetweeners.
Preston Remembrance Sunday parade and service to take place at the Cenotaph
On Remembrance Sunday (November 14), Preston will host a Remembrance Sunday Parade.
The Service will commence at the Cenotaph at 11am.
Leyland Trucks’ 125th-anniversary fundraiser secures £25,000 for cancer charities
A seven-week campaign led by Leyland Trucks has raised over £25,000 for local cancer charities.
Helping Hand, a non-profit organisation run by a committee of Leyland Trucks and PACCAR Parts employees launched a programme of challenges for the #StrongerTogether event.
The event replaced the annual Factory to Festival fundraiser, cancelled for a second time because of Covid-19. The money raised went to St Catherine’s Hospice, Rosemere Cancer Foundation, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.
