Flood warnings and alerts as Preston and South Ribble hit with heavy rainfall

As heavy rain continues to batter Preston and South Ribble, flood warnings and alerts have been put in place.

There is a flood warning for River Ribble at Samlesbury, around Brockholes Reserve and Lower Brockholes Quarry. Residents are being warned to ‘act now’ as flooding is expected.

River levels are forecast to rise on the River Ribble due to rainfall. Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Ribble between 11am and 7pm today (November 1), with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around Brockholes Reserve and businesses based at Lower Brockholes Quarry.

Further rainfall is forecast this morning. Rainfall and river levels are being monitored, and river blockages are being checked.

People are being warned to avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. Plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.



A flood warning has also been issued for River Ribble at Walton-le-Dale at the area from Fishwick Bottoms to the Railway Bridge.

River levels are forecast to rise on the River Ribble due to rainfall. Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Ribble between 1-7pm today, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around Fishwick Bottoms area on the north bank of the River Ribble upstream of Walton Bridge.

Properties on the South bank of the Ribble between the Darwen Confluence and the Railway Bridge including the sewage works and Catholic College playing fields are at risk.

There is a flood alert for Lower River Ribble and Darwen, again due to heavy rainfall.

River levels are rising on the River Ribble and River Darwen due to heavy rainfall.

Flooding is expected at River Ribble from Samlesbury and the River Darwen from Darwen including Blackburn, Preston, Walton-Le-Dale, Pleasington and Higher Walton from 8.30am, with further rainfall throughout the morning.

The situation is being monitored.
