The event, taking place online on Tuesday 18 October, will showcase research on climate change and waste management from within UCLan’s School of Engineering, and is available to all.

It will feature presentations and discussions on research and opportunities for collaboration and business support linked to climate change and waste management at a local and international scale.

Organiser Professor Ian Sherrington, Director of UCLan’s Jost Institute for Tribotechnology, said: “We rely on governments to use legislation to drive large scale change to reduce global warming and waste, but the responsibility falls on all of us to play our own part.

“Here at the UCLan, we are doing our best to help people and businesses to understand what part they can play in helping to avoid further damage to our global ecosystem.”

The four research themes are waste and resource management, agriculture, engineering solutions for sustainability, and energy generation. They will span topics such as sustainable crop production, project engagement opportunities to reduce the carbon footprint in Lancashire, sustainability in building, and alternative fuels.

As well as listening to the speakers, online attendees will also be able to submit questions for discussion.

The event is taking place ahead of the United Nations forthcoming Conference of the Parties (COP) 26 Conference, which takes place in Glasgow between 31 October and 12 November.

Attendees have the option to view specific presentations or attend all day.
