A Preston firm is providing free packed lunches to children in Penwortham over half-term.
AdvertisementOn 28 October, from 10 to 1pm, Sale Gurus UK Ltd volunteers will hand out and deliver 1,000 lunches from Penwortham Scout Hut, including a drink, a piece of fruit, a sandwich, a packet of crisps and a bar of chocolate.
Sale Gurus Founder and CEO David Rose decided to take action after realising the difficulties faced by parents over the school holidays.

David said: “My son attends a local school in Preston. We realised how tough holidays can be for parents to make ends meet and ensure their child gets a wholesome meal provided for them when not at school.
“Food provides the basic needs for us all and specifically for children who require a balanced diet to grow, learn and thrive!”
Department for Work and Pensions data highlights how in Preston, 7,268 children under 16 lived in families with low incomes in 2019-2020, an estimated 25 per cent of all youngsters.

David said: “Regardless of family backgrounds, we want to offer something fun for local children and ensure they get a meal in the holidays.”
The volunteers are arranging home deliveries for those who cannot attend. The service is also for those who would like to attend but do not want it known publicly.
