It’s been a busy week in Preston.
Suicide prevention day, an important date in the calendar, was yesterday (10 September) and we found out that Unemployed over 50’s across Preston invited to four-week programme to help with mental health and job prospects, which was great news.

In pictures: A vibrant celebration of South Asian culture at 2021’s Preston City Mela
Preston City Mela took place Saturday 4 September in a vibrant celebration of South Asian arts, music, dance, culture and heritage.
The event had been delayed from its usual early summer slot due to the pandemic, but there was no dialling down the high energy and community spiritedness on display at the Flag Market.
Local photographer Michael Porter went along to capture the fun.

Stormtroopers descend on Deepdale Retail Park to raise money for The Firefighters Charity
Stormtroopers descended onto the car park at Deepdale Retail Park to help raise money for a Firefighters Charity fundraiser.
Kelly McHugh is fundraising for The Firefighters Charity after the charity has had a difficult year.
She decided to walk 100km across the Sahara Desert over a five day period to raise money for the charity, who help and support fire personnel, whether they are ill, injured or need psychological support.
Fulwood Leisure Centre to collect unwanted sportswear for children and young people
Better, the charitable social enterprise which operates leisure centres across Preston on behalf of the city council, has partnered with BBC Radio Lancashire on a new charitable campaign ‘Kit Out the Nation.’
The initiative aims to provide good quality, used sports clothing and equipment to children and young people in need.
Donations of second-hand kit can be made directly at collection points within Fulwood Leisure Centre on Blackbull Lane.
These will then be distributed to local schools and to the children who will benefit most.

Miller Arcade in Preston is set to welcome luxury restaurant chain Haute Dolci, taking over the Heavenly Desserts unit.
Opening this autumn, it will reveal and elegant new look that is certain to make customers excited.
Located in the Miller Arcade, the restaurant will provide a full dolci dessert and brunch menu, featuring temptingly delicious desserts and mouth-watering savoury dishes that are sure to satisfy.
Former PNE defender Clarke Carlisle speaks out on World Suicide Prevention Day
Former Premier League footballer Clarke Carlisle is making an emotional appeal for people to ‘keep talking’ in a bid to stop men from taking their own lives.
The 41-year-old is supporting the latest phase of Lancashire and South Cumbria Health and Care Partnership’s Let’s Keep Talking campaign which is being launched today – World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September 2021).
Suicide rates across the region are the third highest in England and men are three times more likely to take their life by suicide than women.
