Preston set to be ‘full of theatre and music’ as Lancashire Encounter culture festival returns

Preston residents will this weekend enjoy a programme of events as a popular festival arrives in the city centre.

The Lancashire Encounter arts and culture festival has now returned following a hiatus brought about by the pandemic.

Kicking off on Friday 17 September and running to Saturday 2 October, Encounter celebrates Lancashire’s rich and diverse cultural offer and sees the city brought to life with an exciting programme of contemporary and community arts from across the county.

A vision for the future of adult social care across Preston and Lancashire has been unveiled.

The plans will see people put at the heart of every decision made.

It sets out a bold plan to give older people and adults with mental health needs, autism, or a learning or physical disability the support they need to remain safe, well and independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

Gavin Renshaw’s first Paint Preston mural spotted on Boltons Court

The first Paint Preston mural has appeared on the side of T. Snape Printers and Co on Boltons Court.

Created by artist Gavin Renshaw as part of a new street art project, Preston residents spotted the mural down the side street accessible by the side of Yates’.

Renshaw’s design depicts the starting point of the Guild Wheel in Avenham and Miller Park.

Eagle-eyed viewer Russell J Baines noticed a familiar place whilst watching American drama ‘Debris.’

St Walburge’s Church was pictured in the scene.

During the scene where Preston is mentioned, the head of the CIA is attempting to get information out of a rogue SAS agent.

Mental health professionals cover 168 laps of Preston Docks to raise awareness and funds

A group of mental health professionals have covered 168 laps of Preston Docks in a bid to raise awareness and funds for local support networks.

The group, who mostly work in mental health nursing and social care, plus their friends and family, joined the Mental Health Miles event on Sunday (12 September).

At least £600 has been raised, which will be split between Combat Stress, the military veterans’ mental health charity, and Jacob’s Join, a local charity for research into rhabdomyosarcoma.
