A 78-year-old male has been arrested after driving the wrong way on the M6 for around 35 miles past Preston.
Police were alerted to the car being on the wrong carriageway from J34 near Lancaster on Saturday (11 September). Patrols attempted to stop the vehicle at J33 but it continued.
A stinger was deployed at J28 and then J27, near Standish, where the car was finally brought to a halt.
The male, from Truro, has been bailed while police conduct additional enquiries that are needed before charges can be brought.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Road Police said: “This was certainly all hands to the pump to get this vehicle stopped before it caused a serious collision. It was the combined team effort that finally led to the safe conclusion.”
