A tribute gig is being held in honour of the renowned and much-respected Preston musician Steve Hesketh, who sadly passed away in December last year.
Steve, who was 66 when he died as a result of Covid-19, first came to prominence on the local music scene in the 1970.
Described as ‘a natural talent’, Steve played with several bands over the following decades including Crossfire, No Surrender and The Steve Hesketh Blues Band.
Friend of Steve, Reg Kielty, said: “Steve was an exemplary guitar player and an exemplary person.
“He drew in fans of rock and blues music from far and wide. However, what struck you most about Steve was his humility and genuine surprise at being so lauded by his peers among the musical community and audiences who witnessed his prowess.”
The tribute gig will take place on Wednesday 20 October at The Boatyard at The Continental.
It will feature five bands all containing musicians who played in bands with Steve or were his friends: Tipitina, The Band With No Name, The Conway Bothers Band, True North, and Crossfire, which includes former members of the original band.
Tickets are £10 in advance from stevesueconway@yahoo.co.uk, with all proceeds going to The British Heart Foundation.
