One person was taken to hospital with burn injuries after a ‘significant’ fire at Walton Summit yesterday (Sunday 15 August).

Firefighters were called to the fire at an industrial unit in Brierley Road just after 8pm.

Four fire crews from Bamber Bridge, Preston and Penwortham originally responded to reports of the fire, before a total of six further fire engines joined.

The casualty was assessed by paramedics at the scene and transferred to hospital for treatment.

A large smoke plume was produced by the fire, with local residents being advised to close any windows and doors as a precaution. Some road diversions were also put in place.

In a video filmed at the scene, Station Manager at Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Johnny Nottingham, said: “Crews used jets and breathing apparatus as well as aerial appliances to extinguish the fire.

“Crews will now work throughout the evening to discover the cause of the fire and will likely be here until the early hours of the morning.”
