Miller Road Pharmacy is supplying PCR testing kits for those who wish to fly abroad.
The pharmacy, located in Preston, is offering the kits for £90.
PCR kits have become increasingly necessary as many airlines will not allow passengers to board without a negative test result.
This is because a PCR test is significantly more accurate and reliable than a standard LFT (lateral flow test). While LFTs detect Covid-19 symptoms, a PCR test is able to directly identify the viral RNA, which exists in the body before any symptoms start to show.
A PCR kit supplies the user with a RT-qPCR sample kit, laboratory analysis, and a Covid-free travel certificate. They are CR-IVD approved for sale and use within the EU and UK.
After taking the test, the user should receive a result within 72 hours – it is therefore recommended that people prepare for their trips in advance.

If negative, the user will receive this result in the form of a PDF Laboratory Certificate. This acts as a travel passport, allowing the patient to then board their flight with no trouble.
Through a one-to-one consultation, Miller Road’s pharmacists can assist patients in deciding whether a PCR test is the right choice for them, as well as provide additional advice on precautions to take when travelling abroad during a pandemic.

While free PCR tests are available on the NHS, they cannot be acquired for leisure travel. This means leisure travellers must rely on pharmacies like Miller Road to supply them for such situations.
As more and more people receive their jabs and over 130 countries remain on the amber list, the demand for PCR kits will likely increase.
