The application is for works covering an area of more than 3,000 sq m, extending from St. Peter’s Arts Centre to the Victoria building.

A UCLan spokesperson said: “The extended public realm application works seek to create an upgraded and more accessible ‘Central Spine’ walkway between the new Student Centre building and Victoria building, using the same quality granite material as the adjacent Masterplan works for consistency.

“The project will also provide a more functional and more attractive small events space between St Peter’s Arts Centre and the Students’ Union building.”

The application says: “[It is] comprising the creation of an attractive, linear route defined by six key character areas connecting a number of buildings within the university campus including the Arts Centre, Library, Student’s Union, Adelphi Building, and Victoria Building.

“The proposals also include the creation of a new public square adjacent to St. Peter’s Arts Centre, filling in the current ‘basin’ and stepped formation to create a level area for events.”

The works would take place on a Grade II listed building and the proposed materials for the development include granite.
