Motorists are being told to expect delays of up to 30 minutes on approach to the incident on the M6 northbound on the Junction 31 exit slip road, with three miles of slow moving traffic spanning back to Junction 29 (A6, M65).

If you are travelling this morning, please allow extra time for your journey.

Lancashire Police released a statement which said: “Emergency services are currently dealing with a collision on the M6 Northbound, J31.

“Please avoid the area where possible to assist emergency vehicles attending. We are implementing road closures that will be in place for some time.”

Just before 9am, the M6 northbound J31 exit slip road was re-opened, and the rolling road block was released. All lanes are now open.
