Preston North End Football Club released a statement on Tuesday (13 April) regarding racist comments which have been left on social media.

The spokesperson said that the comments have been reported to the police.

The football club have reminded supporters that if they come across any further instances of racism, they should be reported immediately to the police on 101, and not the football club.

The statement ended with: “The club would like to take this opportunity to remind all supporters and the wider community that we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind and all reports will be taken seriously.”

Twitter users responded to the statement, showing support for the football club’s stance on racism.

@CraigBeingCraig said: “No place for any of it. Our club doesn’t need bigoted idiots.”

Ex Preston City Councillor @JohnSwindells commented: “Hopefully a well justified knock on the door for the keyboard warriors will follow. ID required to have a twitter or other social media handle should be the norm.”
