Police are appealing for information after receiving reports of men playing football in studded boots on a Penwortham bowling green.

A committee member at the bowling club, which is situated at Vernon-Carus Sports Club off Factory Lane, says thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused.

A spokesperson for South Ribble Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We have had reports of adult males playing football on Penwortham bowling green off Factory Lane.

“The green has been badly damaged due to studded football boots being worn.

“A concerned member of the committee has said it will cost thousands to put this right.

“PSCO 7246 Denham is doing further enquiries after being passed a vehicle registration today. We will be checking the area and ask that people stay off the green.”

Anyone with information about this incident can email 7246@lancashire.police.uk.
