We’ve had plenty of news to bring you from Preston over the past week.

A memorial bench was unveiled for Michael Brooks, a new Starbucks opened on Preston Docks and it was announced the bus lane on Tithebarn Street has been made permanent.

Below are five of the stories you might have missed.

Leyland Festival cancelled for second year in a row

Leyland Festival have announced via Twitter that it will not be going ahead for a second year in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, they have set a date for 18 June 2022 that the festival will return.

The festival was also cancelled in 2020, along with many other events which involved large gatherings of people.

Investigation underway into cause of bedroom fire at property in Preston street

An investigation into a house fire in Preston yesterday (Sunday 7 February) is underway.

Two fire engines from Penwortham and Preston were called to the incident, which involved a bedroom at a house on Osborne Street, off Christchurch Street, at around 7pm.

Electric scooter rider dies after Bamber Bridge crash as murder investigation launched

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man died in a collision in Bamber Bridge.

A 20-year-old man from Walton-le-Dale has died following the incident.

South Ribble Police closed Station Road, near Morrisons, shortly after 1pm following reports of a collision between a man on an electric scooter and a vehicle.

Further arrest made in Sarmad Al-Saidi murder investigation

Detectives investigating the murder of a teenager in Preston have made a further arrest.

The 18-year-old man was arrested yesterday (Thursday 11 February) on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

They have now been released under investigation.

A special Valentine’s Day Stream To The Street is taking place to celebrate love in Preston.

The event will support Preston’s music scene and local charity, We Are Hummingbird, a non-profit that aims to make mental health as important as physical health through the power of music.
