Despite there being Covid-19 restrictions, it has not stopped local artists from getting creative.

The exhibition showcases Preston-based artists and makers with work on display that includes painting, photography, digital, sculpture, ceramics, textiles and more. Many of the works have the popular themes of ‘family’ and ‘nature’ that have a special resonance this year.

Despite the galleries being closed to the public, it is hoped the Harris Open 2021 will reach even wider audiences with a specially filmed virtual tour of the exhibition available to view online for everyone to enjoy on the Harris website.

Captured on film in the top floor galleries, the film will show work from artists and makers of all ages and backgrounds on display. Some of the work is for sale and people can view the catalogue online to see details of the individual artists and makers’ work and artwork prices.

Cllr Peter Kelly, Executive Member for Culture & Leisure at Preston City Council said: “For over 70 years the Harris Open has been one of our most loved exhibitions showcasing local artists.

“The Harris would like to thank all the artists and makers who have submitted work under difficult circumstances and who have made this year’s Harris Open extra special. Our panel of judges will be choosing four prize winners.

“There is also a prize for the artwork voted the public’s favourite. The Harris would also like to thank Stowe Family Law who has very kindly sponsored this year’s prizes.”
