An outline planning application from Bloor Homes and Taylor Wimpey is one of the largest single plans for the area where the North West Preston Masterplan is seeing up to 5,000 new homes built in total – stretching from Broughton across to Cottam.

Construction of the new East-West Link Road, connecting Cottam to the new Preston Western Distributor and linking into Lightfoot Lane and Fulwood would lead to the new homes coming off this road.

The new homes would be behind the small development which has already been completed off Tabley Lane, close to the bridge over the M55.

At the northern end of the development area land has been ear-marked for a potential new secondary school building and associated outdoor space.

A number of small parkland spaces and ponds are indicated to be included in the development.

Planning agents Randall Thorp and Lichfields also indicate there could be space within the development for a small number of retail premises.

No timescale has been given for the development, although its understood completion of the East-West Link Road would be needed before construction could begin on the site.

The North West Preston Masterplan sees thousands of new homes built from Tom Benson Way northwards to the M55 in a ‘garden village’ which sees the population of the northern area of the city increase rapidly.
