Preston police have updated followers of their Facebook page about an act of kindness from their officers and Spar staff.
Just before midnight last night (3 January), police were patrolling the city centre and found a homeless man sleeping in one of the shop doorways.
He had been unable to get emergency housing for the night.

Police are not able to do much to help provide accommodation, however, they offered to bring him back a hot drink when they next passed through.
Later in the evening, the officers were getting a drink from the Bluebell Way Spar.
A member of the night shift staff gave them several homemade sandwiches to pass on to the homeless with the drink.
