A planning application has been submitted for a modern two-storey extension to be added to the Grade II listed St James building at Cardinal Newman College.
The application states that building on the site, which is currently a small staff car park, would allow the college to consolidate the Art and Design department in one location.
The proposed new build “does not attempt to replicate the existing architecture but does reference and respect it through scale and material choices”.
External works would create an entrance plaza with cycle parking and new trees would be planted.
Relining of an adjacent car park area is proposed to provide accessible parking.
