Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a woman was raped and attacked in the early hours of Saturday (19 December) morning.

A woman in her 20s was attacked by a man on a footpath just off Tan Yard Road in Catterall, near Garstang.

Garstang and Over Wyre Police attended the scene around 3.50am on Saturday, after reports of a woman screaming.

A man, in his 20s, with blonde hair and dressed in dark clothing is being hunted by police. Police say they have now made an arrest.

Detective Inspector Chris Naidu, of Lancashire Police, said: “We are in the early stages of an investigation and enquiries are on-going at this time to establish the exact circumstances.

“At this time we believe the victim travelled to the area in a taxi before the man assaulted her on a footpath close to Tan Yard Road.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries to identify the offender are ongoing.

“The woman is currently being supported by officers.

“We understand this is a very concerning incident for the local community and we would urge residents to remain vigilant.

“Patrols have been increased in the area and we have a dedicated team of officers handling the investigation.”
