The ‘Bratwurst and Butter Pies – Christmas with the shops of Cannon/Winckley Street’ event has been organised by small business owners to highlight what’s on offer down some of Preston’s best-loved side streets.

As well as the Bratwurst and butter pies, there will be goodies including mulled wine, cakes, sweets, gifts, designer and vintage clothing, and vouchers available to purchase.

The Cannon Street outlets involved are Ravenous, Clare’s Kitchen and Vintage Tearoom, Tea House, Deli-licious, Wings and Beer Co, Strictly Dancing, Ocean and Retrogue.

On Winckley Street, Green Pheasant Gifts, Forum, Lonely People Cocktail Bar and Laura Webster Beauty are all involved.

Owner of Ravenous, Louise Sey, is the person behind the idea.

She said: “I was thinking one day what an uneventful Christmas this is for everyone, so I wanted to give people in Preston a bit of Christmas cheer and something to put in their diaries.

“Small businesses have had a rough old time this year. All those involved agree this event is something positive, and a good idea for the side streets off Fishergate, which often get overlooked.

“At the weekend the high street was heaving, but the side streets had less footfall. It’s quite sad at the moment that high street shops can have queues of up to 100 and crowds inside, yet I can’t have four tables of two people drinking coffee.

“The shopping event gives us small business owners something to focus on, and is a way to drum up new business so we can prosper next year.”

The late night shopping event is taking place on Saturday 12 December from 2pm to 8pm.

Safety will be paramount, with social distancing and masks a must.
