Royal Preston Hospital due to give Covid vaccine to staff ‘from next week’
Royal Preston Hospital is to be one of the ‘hospital’ hubs as the Covid-19 vaccine is rolled out.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust is one of the 50 ‘hubs’ to be confirmed by the government.
The hospital is on standby to receive the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine as early as Monday (7 December).
Fire at former Baffito’s restaurant by Preston Docks
Fire crews were called to a blaze at the former Baffito’s restaurant in the early hours of Tuesday 1 December.
Eight fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms attended the fire in Navigation Way by the Docks.
Posting on Twitter, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters are trying to bring the fire involving the roof under control.
“Firefighters will remain at the scene for most of the night where they will continue to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe.”
Cleaners ‘scoped out’ the Ashton-on-Ribble house they worked in before stealing wedding rings, family photos and jewellery
A pair of cleaners who burgled the house they worked in, stealing £11,000 of sentimental jewellery and electrical items, have been jailed.
Samantha Addison, 47, and Lisa Power, 40, were employed as cleaners at a family home in Victoria Parade, Ashton-on-Ribble in March 2020.
Preston Crown Court heard the householders “showed them nothing but kindness” but described their behaviour in the course of their cleaning as “odd and needy.”
82-year-old man and young granddaughter threatened in Penwortham burglary
Police are appealing for information after an 82-year-old man and his 8-year-old granddaughter were threatened during a burglary in Penwortham.
The incident happened at around 6pm on Saturday (28 November) at a property in Hawkhurst Road.
Four men forced their way into the address, threatening the man and his granddaughter with a screwdriver and a knife. They ransacked the house, stealing cash and personal property. The group then made off in a dark-coloured SUV style vehicle.
Fulwood school joins the Big Climate Fightback
Archbishop Temple School in Fulwood has joined the Woodland Trust’s Big Climate Fightback by planting 400 trees.
Year 7 pupils planted a mixture of Rowen, Hawthorn, Wild Cherry, Mountain Ash and Silver Birch in the grounds of the school last week.
After learning about taking an active role in protecting the natural world by reducing their carbon footprint, pupils decorated pebbles with pledges to help the environment. The pebbles will form part of a display in the school grounds.
