Fire crews were called to a blaze at the former Baffito’s restaurant in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday 1 December).
AdvertisementEight fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms attended the fire in Navigation Way by the Docks.
Posting on Twitter, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters are trying to bring the fire involving the roof under control.
“Firefighters will remain at the scene for most of the night where they will continue to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe.”
No injuries were reported, and the police have been called to assist with the fire investigation.
Plans were recently submitted for the derelict building to become a care home.
Preston City Council had previously agreed to sell the building to Glenholme Healthcare Group, a residential care provider for the elderly and adults with a variety of complex needs.
The building has stood empty since October 2019, when Italian restaurant Baffito’s closed its doors. Prior to this, the property was The Waterfront pub.
