St Catherine’s Hospice is welcoming people to remember their loved ones with a poignant Light Up A Life dedication this Christmas.

The charity’s annual remembrance opportunity invites people to honour special lives by dedicating a light in the grounds of St Catherine’s Park in Lostock Hall.

Names will be entered into an online remembrance book, and a virtual Light Up A Life dedication evening will be held on Facebook on December 1, and will be available to view on the hospice’s website.

Lorraine Charlesworth, director of community and income, said: “We know Light Up A Life means so much to our supporters; it’s a special opportunity to pay tribute to those we have lost in a very meaningful way.

“Dedications are welcome in memory of anyone – not only those who have been cared for by the hospice – and the lights will shine brightly throughout December and January to symbolise the lives of those we are remembering. We are also sending out Light Up A Life cards and tea lights for people to display at home this year.

“Sadly we can’t all be together for our usual lights switch-on event in the hospice grounds as usual, but we want people to know that they are not alone in their grief, and we want to connect our communities in new ways whilst protecting everyone’s safety.

“We are hosting a virtual dedication evening on Facebook on December 1 which we hope will provide comfort and solace for people, which will also be available to view on our website. Supporters are welcome to visit our gardens after this throughout December and January to see the lights, and to take a moment to reflect.

“We’re also hoping to be able to invite people to see the Light Up A Life Remembrance Book in person sometime in the New Year, if it is safe to do so, and this will be available to view on our website in time for Christmas.
