Latest Preston and South Ribble coronavirus cases as city prepares to re-enter lockdown this week

Latest coronavirus figures for Preston show there were 95 new cases during Sunday (1 November).

The city had the second-highest increase in Lancashire, behind Blackburn-with-Darwen where 158 new cases were recorded.

South Ribble saw 36 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, one of the borough’s lowest daily increases in recent weeks.

The figures come as the city, the county, and country, prepares for a tighter lockdown from Thursday (5 November).

In a press conference on Saturday the Prime Minister announced a second national lockdown with non-essential shops, bars, pubs and restaurants all forced to close alongside lots of other leisure facilities.

Schools, colleges and universities are to remain open in a major difference from the Spring lockdown.

The government is facing growing calls for schools to be closed for ‘at least two weeks’ as part of the lockdown.
