The improvement work will include refurbishing some of the existing equipment as well as some new equipment, including installation of a new space net, double bump slide, nest swing and a mini trampoline and safer surfacing.

Cabinet member for environment and community safety, councillor Robert Boswell, said: “It’s great news that this work at the play area has finally begun. It’s been a challenging year in many aspects, which meant improvement works and upgrades such as this have been delayed.

“Improvements and enhancement with new play equipment will benefit families in the area and across Preston and we anticipate the work will be complete by Christmas.

“Huge thanks to everyone involved in the project, especially funding partners Lancashire Environmental Fund, The Harris Trust and the continuing work of the Friends of Haslam Park group.”

A grandmother, who asked not to be named, walking in the Ashton-on-Ribble park with her grandchildren said: “That is very beneficial for the community. Children have not been able to play here. We hope it will be completed in time for children before Christmas and that would be wonderful.”

Work on the site started in mid-November and will be completed by Christmas.
