Fulwood cyclist Hugh Carthy is set to claim a surprise third place in the Vuelta a Espana.
AdvertisementCarthy outclassed his rivals on the legendary Alto de l’Angliru last Sunday (1 November) to take the biggest victory of his career so far.
A subsequent impressive time trial performance on Tuesday saw the EF Pro Cycling rider lay a stake for the podium.
Now, all being well, Carthy will secure third place tomorrow behind Primoz Roglic and Richard Carapaz.

The BBC reported Carthy saying: “I’m proud of myself for showing my ability.”
You can watch Hugh tackle the final stage – a 125.4km course from the Hipodromo de la Zarzuela to Madrid – tomorrow (Sunday 8 November) live on Eurosport or with the GCN Race Pass. ITV4 will broadcast a highlights show at 10.30pm.
