Latest coronavirus cases data shows Preston’s daily new positive tests continue to come in at around half what they were.

The government is preparing to outline how the three-tier restrictions will work post-2 December, first to MPs on Monday and then to the country on Thursday (26 November).

A regional approach to restrictions is expected to be brought back in.

The weekend’s test data from Public Health England shows in Preston on Saturday (21 November) there were 57 new Covid-19 cases and on Sunday (22 November) a total of 67.

South Ribble saw 20 new cases on Saturday and 41 on Sunday.

Christmas clarity edging closer

As well as outlining the return to regional restrictions, the Prime Minister is also expected to clarify Christmas.

Rumours have been swirling since the middle of last week about a relaxing of the restrictions on indoor household mixing for a ‘number of days’ over the Christmas holidays.

The Cabinet Office said on Sunday afternoon they were hopeful of reaching agreement with ministers in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on a shared approach for Christmas, recognising that many people crossed borders to see family at this time of year.

All nations are said to have agreement to ‘allowing some limited additional household bubbling for a small number of days’.
