A woman has been charged with murder following the death of a man in Longton.

Police were called around 3.50am on March 6 to a report of a serious assault at an address in Cedar Grove.

Emergency services attended with Raymond Conlan, 75, found inside the property with serious injuries to his head and body.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene but sadly died.

A Home Office post mortem confirmed he died as a result of stab injuries.

A woman was arrested on suspicion of murder and later detained under the Mental Health Act.

Elizabeth Birtwistle, 32, of no fixed address, has now been charged with murder and appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday, 22 October).

She is due to make a further appearance at Preston Crown Court today (Friday, 23 October).
