Fire crews were called out to a large fire in Avenham in the early hours of this morning (Friday 2 October.)
AdvertisementThe team received reports of a large fire on the front of a property in Duke Street at around 4.20am. When the crew arrived at the scene, the fire had spread into the building and a first floor flat was also alight.
There were several flats in the building, and firefighters wore breathing apparatus to rescue people. Three adults, three children and a dog were rescued using smoke hoods and a ladder.

Casualties were checked over by paramedics on the scene of the incident for smoke inhalation, and three were taken to the hospital for further treatment.

At the time of reporting, firefighters are still attending the scene. A joint investigation into the cause of the fire will begin soon.
